Pups Living In Pipe Were Terrified Of People, But Rescuers Refused To Give Up

After Mimi and Momo were left behind in Georgia, they searched around, trying to find a safe place. They ended up hiding in a nearby drainpipe, which quickly became their temporary home.

Audrey Locke, of Rescue Luck, discovered the homeless puppies and quickly took it upon herself to help them. The first time she tried to approach them, she realized how scared they were and realized that rescuing them would require a lot of effort and clever planning.

"These dogs were very scared and terrified because they hadn't received much human affection," Locke said in a video for The Dodo. "They would approach us and eat from our hands, but they wouldn't let me pet them or put a leash on them."

The next day, Locke returned, refreshed with a new strategy to try. She threw food inside a box, hoping the puppies would enter the box to eat and close the door behind them. It seemed unlikely, but luckily it worked.

Even after their rescue, Mimi and Momo remained extremely scared, but Luck refused to give up on them.

"All I wanted was to give them love, so I kept trying," Luck said.

After Luck relieved the stress for a few days, the puppies were taken to foster care. Their new foster mother had extensive experience dealing with fearful dogs from neglectful circumstances, so she seemed the perfect person to care for Mimi and Momo.

Finally, after much effort, the puppies began to accept and learn that people weren't so scary.

After their fear subsided a bit, Mimi and Momo were put up for adoption, and they are now thriving in their forever homes.
