Shelter Dog Cries Day And Night After Losing The Only Home She's Ever Known
Michi and her father had been together since she was a puppy. He was her best friend and would do anything for her—so when he was evicted from his home and faced homelessness, he sadly knew what to do.
Thirteen-year-old Michi walked three miles to the Anita Stevens Swan Humane Society with her father. When they arrived, he made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her so she could have a better future than he could give her. He did what he had to do to keep Michi safe—but sadly, he couldn't explain it to Michi.
When the homeowner left, Michi was screaming and crying," Melissa DiMartino of the Anita Stevens Swan Humane Society told The Dodo. "She was distraught for days."
Michi's father left in tears, and shelter staff quickly worked to make Michi feel as safe and secure as possible in her new environment. The staff immediately recognized what a sweet and loving girl she was, but the stress of losing the only home she'd ever known weighed heavily on her.
"We made Michi as comfortable as possible, providing large, soft blankets, fresh water, food, toys, and as much loving interaction as possible," the shelter wrote on Facebook. "But when she was brought home, her cries wouldn't be silenced. It's a reality completely different from anything she's ever known she's desperately trying to get out the door and back into a loving home."
Michi misses her dad terribly, and every time she goes out, she tries to walk back to the road where she last saw him. Still, she has her happy moments, and those moments are with people willing to give her love and attention. That's what Michi really wants and needs right now: a welcoming home with people who will love her.
"Michi seems to fit in wherever people are, so she's getting the attention she deserves," DiMartino said.
Michi misses her father desperately, and all she wants now is to find her forever home.
