Duncan, a 12-year-old boy, slipped under a dumpster and lay down, exhausted and defeated, after wandering through a junkyard one day. A staff member there noticed him and quickly brought him some food and water.
The employee could see that Duncan was blind and in poor condition, and while her supervisor wanted to notify animal control, she knew he would not be in a public shelter for long. Instead, she quickly contacted a rescue organization.
When Hope for Paws received a phone call about Duncan, they went out to the junkyard to rescue him. The rescuers offered him more food, but the poor dog was so disoriented and disoriented that they knew it was necessary to get him out of there as quickly as possible.
Duncan did not resist when they wrapped a leash around his neck, and because he was old, blind and sick, he allowed the rescuers to slowly pull him from under the dumpster. They were able to see how severely neglected Duncan had been subjected to once he was released.
He wore a rope around his neck, indicating that someone was responsible for him at one point and had let him down. Donk let his rescuers pet and love him in the car on his way to the vet, which was probably the first time he'd felt affection in years.
"I'm sorry whoever did this to you, I'm so sorry," Duncan's rescuers repeatedly told him in a video of his rescue.
The vet informed Duncan's rescuers that, in addition to being blind, he was suffering from fatigue, a skin condition, ulcers and two separate tumors. Doctors recommended that Duncan be put down to ease his suffering, but rescuers decided this was not the way Duncan's life should end. They wanted him to know what it meant to be loved after so many years of neglect.
Knowing that Duncan's condition was difficult, Hope for Paws contacted Frosted Faces to see if they would take him in, since they specialize in caring for large dogs. They quickly agreed and placed Duncan in a foster home, and everyone was amazed at how dramatically Duncan transformed just by being in a nurturing environment.
Although Duncan suffers from dementia, this has not stopped him from adapting to life in foster care and enjoying all that his foster family has to offer.
He enjoys being cozy and hanging out in laundry baskets, and although he can get overwhelmed at times, there is always someone to comfort him, which is just what he needs. Duncan's life is uncertain, but no matter what happens, he is finally loved and given the chance he always deserved.
