In Kansas City, Missouri, hidden cameras from illegal dumping helped save an abandoned puppy. A 3-year-old Pit Bull mix was abandoned by his owners at a popular illegal dumping site in the city.
The white dog was seen being pushed from the truck and then racing after its owner's car in the video.
While municipal inspector Alan Ashurst was looking at pictures of the dog, now named Mohave, he admitted he "got into a bit of a rage" a week later when he rewatched the film.
Law enforcement typically observes individuals dumping trash, tires, and debris. But the sight of the dog angered Ashurst.
Ashurst enlisted the help of an animal health and public safety officer he knew, and the two men set out to find and rescue Mojave. They brought a dog cage and found it on the second day of the search. All he needed was a can of dog food to convince the Mojave to join them.
Mojave was taken to the KC Pet Project animal shelter to be adopted out. He didn't stay long.
“Wow, that was fast!” Mohave had only been at the shelter for 30 minutes when this adorable couple walked in, met him and fell in love with him, according to the shelter. They were not aware of his speech, but we were able to tell them about it.
He'll have his best friend to play with at home, as well as a family that loves and treats him. Congratulations, Mojave!”
Investigators located the vehicle's license plate Mojave and charged the man with abandoning animals, not having a legal pet license, allowing the animal to run at large, and failing to neuter a Pit Bull breed.
