In the heart of Lexington, at Shriners Sanctuary for Children, an adorable dog named Chance is making a profound impact. His journey from rescue dog with a sad history to certified therapy dog is an uplifting story of resilience, compassion, and the power of love.
Chance's story began with adversity, as he was discovered in dire straits, starving and with a lump lodged in his shoulder. Camp Jean Rescue, a group of dedicated monster hunters, came to his rescue, providing him with the critical medical care needed and, most importantly, an alternative chance at life. Despite their elegant sweats, Chance's front leg could not be saved, and veterinarians had to reattach it, along with his collarbone and shoulder, to treat a pellet crack.
Six weeks after the surgery that saved his life, Chance created a new home with Andrea White, a former Shriners nanny. Inspired by his kind, smart, and biddable nature, Andrea decides to look for a pet therapy tool for Chance. She had a unique mission in mind to visit cases with a scarcity of branches, just like Chance.
Together, Chance and Andrea went through Love On Leash Therapy Pet Training, and it wasn't long before Chance was patrolling the halls of Shriners Children's Lexington as a certified therapy dog. His primary mission was to provide comfort and smiles to children facing challenges similar to his own.
During their visits, Chance and Andrea would frequently enter the experimental clinic's apartments, where the children's faces would light up with joy. Many were descending down to be near their furry friend. The children and their families were naturally curious about how Chance lost his leg, but it was his "eager-to-please" attitude that really won their hearts.
