Two disfigured dogs form an unbreakable friendship after being adopted into the same family for 5 years.
Picasso and Newt - two dogs with facial deformities live with 53-year-old Luvable Dog Rescue founder and director Liesl Wilhardt on their 55-acre home in Eugene, Oregon. Picasso was adopted by Liesl in 2017 after the tragic death of his brother Pablo, and then Newt came into Liesel's home in 2021. Now, these two canines are almost inseparable, according to their owner.
5-year-old Picasso was born with a deformed nose. He suffers from a disease called oral cavities, which causes one side of the jaw to grow larger than the other, resulting in a crooked appearance resembling a painting by the famous artist Pablo Picasso, hence his name. While this disease can occur in many different species of animals and does not cause any discomfort, it does make life more difficult and reduces the chance of adopting a pet.
On the other hand, one-year-old Newt lost his upper jaw after an accident with his mother, who bit him.
“It was a miracle that Picasso survived as a child, because it was difficult for him to even breastfeed,” Liesel said. the upper jaw".
Both of these precious dogs are now living very happy lives despite the difficulties caused by their deformities.
“Both Picasso and Newt love people, so in public they are very outgoing, attention-seeking and love to greet people.” “Most people take instant double shots and then stare at the dogs for a while, trying to understand what they are seeing,” Lyles said.
“They feel no pain, they have adapted to their physical challenges and they do almost everything they want to do.”
“Picasso has loved Newt from the beginning because Newt loves to play and wrestle and has a very good nature. This friendship has deepened as Newt has matured. I love Picasso and Newt with all my heart. They are both incredibly loving, happy, smart, playful dogs,” Liesel said.
Liesl Wilhart was ready to give her followers a glimpse into the life and friendship of her two deformed companions, through videos of their daily activities, such as feeding and playing with each other, as well as hiking and picking berries.
Picasso even has his own Instagram account, which has nearly 400,000 followers.
“Picasso is a very special dog, with an exceptional temperament,” Liesel said in 2017. “I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him.” He is trained as a certified therapy dog and also serves as an ambassador for our beloved dog rescue.”
At the time, Picasso spent his days helping people with disabilities or illness as part of Liesl's rescue program, she said.
"I love this boy so much, and he has had a very difficult life so far. I want the rest of his life to be amazing," he said.
