In many parts of the world, pets continue to suffer cruelty at the hands of their owners. Through our daily animal stories, we aim to spread love to all pet parents and show that animals, just like humans, have feelings and deserve to be treated well. They should not be bullied or left in harm's way because some people cannot take care of them.
If you are a pet owner and cannot care for your animals, consider finding a new home for them with friends, family, or a local vet. At worst, humane euthanasia is a more compassionate option than neglecting their well-being and leaving them to suffer.
Today, we have a heartbreaking story about dogs who were cruelly chained outside their home by their owner, and what makes it even more painful is that they were tied to cables. It is not difficult to imagine the extent of their suffering. Fortunately, rescuers were able to save them and give their lives a happy ending.
You might assume the dogs were strays, but in fact they were abandoned and left chained outdoors by their owners!
In 2020, rescuers at Sidewalk Specials made a shocking discovery in De Doorns. They found two miserable dogs living in deplorable conditions, surrounded by filth and without shelter, food or water. What made their situation even more heartbreaking were the wires and ropes that were dug into their necks, causing them enormous suffering.
“We named them Ratty and Batty, and they are small breeds, and the males are two years old,” Sidewalk Specials shared. “Local residents confirmed that Ratti and Patti were permanently chained.”
Fortunately, the rescuers at Sidewalk Specials successfully convinced the dog owners to surrender them!
Fortunately, the dog owners agreed to release the two poor dogs after the rescue team convinced them. However, it took some time for the rescuers to gain Ratty and Patty's trust because the duo were so terrified. But once they had gained their trust, the pioneering procedure was to remove the cables and cut their necks. After that, the rescue team immediately rushed to the veterinarian to confirm whether there was a health problem with these two boys or not.
Everyone in the neighborhood was happy to see this poor dog rescued, especially the children. “The local children were happy to see them being rescued,” Sidewalk Specials shared. “They need a new home.”
Sadly, Ratty and Patty were evaluated and diagnosed with anemia, mange, nutritional deficiencies and bite fever. Doctors had to amputate one of Patty's back legs since it had been broken for almost a year! Other than that, nothing seems serious.
Fortunately, Ratty and Patty finally get their second chance at life. If you would like to help Ratty, Batty and other rescued dogs, contact Sidewalk Specials for more information.
