Donna, from Stray Rescue in St. Louis, was walking on heavily snowed roads when she heard the agonized cry for help from an abandoned puppy. I followed the sound to find an injured puppy in a pile of snow, trembling and screaming with fear.
Donna's heart was completely broken when she approached the vulnerable puppy. The poor boy smelled of infection from a fatal wound on his side and was suffering from a condition called paraphimosis, which is present in uncircumcised males and requires proper treatment.
The puppy, now called Weezer, seemed so grateful the moment Donna reached him. Although he was in pain, his frightened sobbing softened when I took him to the car. He felt safe and moved by the intimate wagging of the tail!
Donna took him to a trauma center where he received treatment for his condition. Veterinarians discovered that the infected wound was caused by a belt buckle, which his owner must have placed on him harshly
Weezer, who is about 7 months old, has made a great recovery. We are grateful for the love and care shown by Donna, and hope that a better life awaits our beautiful Weezer.
