A brave pet dog has died after battling a venomous snake in a desperate attempt to save his owner's child from a fatal bite.
Security cameras installed outside a house in Kidapawan City, in the Philippines, show two black and white dogs attacking a cobra.
Moxy, the 2-year-old white dachshund, initially noticed the lizard crawling into the front garden through the gate and immediately began barking at it.
Then Miley, the black dachshund, went over and caught the hooded cobra in her jaw.
The video shows both brave canines taking turns fighting the snake, with one biting its tail and the other biting off its head.
After a two-minute fight, the cobra was eventually killed, but left Miley with serious bite wounds.
The four-year-old dachshund did not survive her injuries and died minutes after the accident, while Moxy was blinded by cobra venom.
The incident happened last Friday when the dachshund owner's one-year-old daughter, Skye, was sleeping at home.
Skye's father, Jaime Slim, claimed that he and his wife Bowie discovered the incident when they returned home.
“My wife and I went to work,” Jaime said. When we arrived, our assistant informed us of what had happened and checked the cameras.
“We are amazed but so proud of the dogs. I can't thank my dogs enough for protecting my baby Skye. They will be missed so much.”
They raced to a local vet facility for Moxie to receive treatment. She miraculously survived, but lost her sight due to her wounds.
