When it comes to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, most people think of them as a fearsome and dangerous breed that should not be kept as pets. Because of this, they have the sad tag of "most unwanted dog" and often take a while to find a forever home. But that wasn't the case for Sybil, who was adopted just two days after arriving at the rescue charity, and it's all because of her adorable smile.
Sybil, previously known as Lily, was brought to All Dogs Matter in north London last week after a dog keeper found her wandering the streets. When she came to the shelter everyone at first thought they might get in real trouble trying to get her home as is the case with Staffordshire.
Despite the stereotypes sometimes associated with her breed, she quickly won the hearts of the staff at the shelter. Someone decided to take a picture of it and then share it on Twitter. Not surprisingly, Sybil went viral and won hundreds of fans for her gorgeous smile.
Soon the shelter was filled with letters from people sharing their love for the pup. Some even said they would like to adopt her. Finally, she found her forever home with Frankie Murphy, an animal lover who called the charity to say she wanted her.
"We saw her sweet little smile and we couldn't resist," said Frankie. “Although we knew she was getting a lot of attention from the Twitter post, we reached out to the charity hoping she was still available. When we went to visit her we immediately fell in love with her. We were sitting there in the waiting room, she came in with her owner, and she was so excited to see us.” .
"It's very good," said Frankie. "She follows my dad around like a little shadow, and she doesn't bark at all. My neighbors didn't even know we had a new dog because she was so quiet. She's very smart too, she was able to open our back door. She's not tall enough to reach the handle but she can push it her nose and opened it.”
We believe all dogs deserve to be treated with love, care and respect. If you agree with us too, please share this post with everyone to spread this message around the world!
