Because they could not provide the specialized treatment Mia needed, her owners did nothing but take care of her.
Mia's well-being was taken care of by the Casas Cunas Animal Shelter, who also took in the baby. Even though she is only two months old, she will be dewormed due to her large belly.
She also has two vaginas and anus, and Mia will use her anus to eliminate herself. Their trailing claws and tails are located near their stomach. Mia also suffers from other genetic diseases.
She needs more X-rays and a delicate ultrasound, which will help the doctors decide the best way to proceed with the necessary medical procedures. The shelter is currently asking for donations to help with the surgery.
All of the other puppies in Mia's litter were adopted and did not suffer from the same disease.
The pup Skipper is believed to be twins, but they failed to separate completely, leaving Skipper with six legs, two tails, two pelvic regions and two reproductive organs at birth, according to a Neil Veterinary Hospital vet who treated the pup in 2021.
The same genetic birth defect is likely to affect Mia as well.
Mia's first two operations, which must be done in 5 days, are tomorrow. A vet takes care of Mia non-stop.
It is hoped that the puppy will live a long life now that his last report looked promising. It is difficult and expensive to help her at the moment.
