They clung to each other out of fear, unsure of what their future might hold. But look at their lives now in this intimate update.
No reason was given, but when their owner dropped these two dogs off at the shelter, they clung to each other out of fear, unsure of what their future might hold.
Bridget and Louie, as they are now called, were photographed at their reception at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe, Texas last week. Little did they know that after just one day, they would begin their journey to a new life.
The two dogs were suffering from signs of neglect, such as mange and matted fur. But they were clearly bonded, so the shelter decided to keep them together in their own kennel.
Louie, the smaller black dog, had a spiked metal collar sticking out of his neck.
Bridget's upper teeth were ground down to their gums and appeared to contain several droppings. The condition of her teeth could be the result of chewing on metal, such as a chain.
Dog fighters are also known to cut the teeth of female dogs to prevent injury to males during breeding, or if they are used as animal bait. It's heartbreaking, no matter what.
The two dogs were pulled from the shelter by the Texas Animal Rescue Society. They were taken in by their foster mother and father and were soon on their freedom ride to their temporary home.
When the two arrived at their foster family's home, the first thing they did was open the sofa! Bridget fell in love with her and "at last she was satisfied and could sleep."
They enjoy the feeling of the sun on their faces while relaxing on the balcony.
They make friends with their adopted siblings.
And there's plenty of time for cuddling, too.
The future certainly looks brighter for Bridget and Louie. In fact, after more healing and recovery, the two were adopted through the Texas Animal Society website!
Bridget is now 100% heartworm free and has gone through Canine Good Citizen training. Louie has become a "social butterfly", enjoying his time at doggie daycare and making lots of friends!
But the two are still each other's favorites. They love to play together.
They love each other's company.
